Environmental graphics/ printed materials/ experiential design
Project
The client’s brief was to create the environmental graphics and exhibition space messaging, through an immersive and experiential design that celebrates and champions the sustainable initiatives of Falmouth and Exeter Universities within the given guidelines.
Aim
To celebrate and champion the joint Universities’ (Falmouth & Exeter) journey to a sustainably orientated future that has a lasting impact on the planet. To engage and inform the desired audience groups so they become ambassadors of the movement and impact change through the actions and the decisions they make.
Environmental graphics: SHOWCASE SPACE
THE CLIMATE CLOCK: to raise the importance of taking action sooner than later.
THE TV: to show major environmental events, facts and important dates to inform our audience.
ICONS ON THE WALL: to symbolise the main environmental issues that would be linked to the tv on which the information of each of them would appear.
POSTERS: to show how the space could be used to display pieces of students' work by hanging down from the ceiling. In this way, people could walk around it as in the exhibition.
Environmental graphics: STAIRWELL
A gradient of blues and reds shows the rising temperature throughout the years caused by climate change and in this way raises awareness with additional messages that encourages to take action. This and additional infographics inform the audience about the change each year in more detail and add context to the stair steps.
UNIVERSITIES ACTIONS WALL: to inform people about the initiatives of both Universities taking action and how they are tackling sustainable issues.
Environmental graphics: Café spaces
THE EXHIBITS: to show that the Café is being more sustainable by cutting out the single-use plastics for catering. These items being in frames alludes to the idea of leaving plastic in the past.
ILLUSTRATIONS ON CAFÉ WALL: to show the sustainable action for the cafe, e.g:
No single-use plastic bottled drinks;
camira’s ‘Oceanic’ fabric for upholstery – is created entirely from post-consumer recycled plastic (including ocean plastics and plastic bottles destined for landfill);
powered by a 100% renewable electricity tariff;
70% of their food/drinks are from local suppliers.
Environmental graphics: TOP FLOOR SPACE
Designed for students and staff to share ideas and tips about:
understanding sustainability, being sustainable and sustainable achievements.
Printed materials
MESSAGING ON ITEMS: to promote sustainable actions that could be incorporated into the daily life of its customers.
SUSTAINABLE POINTS CARDS: to encourage people to be more sustainable and use rewards as a motivating factor. The more sustainable actions people do the more free drinks they get.
